Ukuleles are fun :-). I've tried playing a lot of different stringed instruments over the years, but never got as far as fast as with the uke. Armed with a ukulele, a chord chart, and a computer to google song tabs, you can be strumming songs you know within an hour. Try it - google "[song name] chords" (without the quotes). You will almost certainly find a listing of that song's lyrics along with it's chords. It may be on a guitar site, but that doesn't matter - just play the same letter chords from your ukulele chord chart, and there you have it! I also like woodworking, and shortly after getting my first uke I decided to try may hand at making one. It's not that difficult if you're a reasonably competent woodworker with a reasonably well appointed shop.
